The natural wood finish is not modified in any way by staining or other agents during the production process.

The surface is only finished with transparent lacquer or oil, thus naturally highlighting the wood texture.

Stains may be used to match beech or oak products to the surroundings. Staining does not affect the wood structure and most colours do not suppress the wood pattern, either. On the contrary, wood as a natural material absorbs colours differently and for this reason the surface is characterised by lighter or darker places.

The colour result is also affected by the initial range of colour of individual woody plants (see illustration photo). Stains are applied by either immersion or spraying. The surface is then finished only with transparent lacquer.

The natural colour and texture of wood can be covered with pigment finishes, which create a compact colour layer on the surface. The final appearance of the pigment finishes on the surface is, however, influenced by the type of wood, their different porosity and colour, production technology, light refraction and individual perception of colour finishes. E.g. on the surface of oak, which has more pronounced pores in its structure, small striations remain visible even after being finished with pigment colours.

Polo is an airy textile mesh which is used for back part of Chips lounge chair. It can also be used to upholster the backs and seats of, for example, a classic range of bentwood furniture.

If used on a seat the Polo mesh is always combined with special underlay material for increased durability. The surcharge for reinforcement mesh is already included in the price of the Polo mesh.

Cleaning:

Cane weave has been used in an almost unchanged form since the revival of the technique at the turn of the twentieth century. Chairs made from bentwood with cane seats or backrests are light, airy and comfortable to sit on, especially in the summer. The cane weave is made from purely natural material, is easy to maintain and can be renovated at any time.

Today, ready-made cane sheets are used instead of hand-weaving. The sheets are made from the inner part of the stem of rattan liana from the forests of Southeast Asia. Before being processed, the cane sheet is moistened to become flexible and then it is pressed into a groove in the seat or backrest by twisted rattan strings. Drying out then results in the required tensioning of the cane. Rattan fibre as a natural material naturally frays. However, during the processing, the weave surface is cleaned up with a special electric machine.

To increase the strength and durability of natural cane weave, we recommend application of additional reinforcement mesh. The reinforcement mesh is stable, holds its shape and prevents excessive stretching of the cane weave on the seat, which may eventually lead to rupture. The additional reinforcement mesh can only be used on the seat. We offer the mesh in black and white colour for a surcharge specified in the price list.
